Why dashboards fail product teams

A useful dashboard makes the next call obvious. A weak one gives every stakeholder a different story—and meetings become defense, not design.

When definitions drift by team, the dashboard becomes a negotiation tool. You stop asking what to ship and start arguing whose number wins.

The ones I keep are narrow: a few outcomes, change over time, and clear ownership. If everything matters, nothing does.

The goal is not to show more. It is to shrink ambiguity before the meeting starts.
